We needed to make 15 presents as props for the opera. First, we made boxes out of cardboard. We used newspaper, sellotape (don’t put too much sellotape) we put wrapping paper over the newspaper. Then, if you want to, you can put a bow on the top!
(You need gloves and safety goggles) As soon as we cut out the shape of the headstone (three groups,) all three groups, Mr Slack helped us cut out three headstones. Then we used the jigsaw to cut a curved shape of the headstone. Next we did sanding and smoothing the edges and sides. You have to go with the grain and not against the grain of the wood.
Anas and Javier sanding.
After the sanding and smoothing, we were ready to paint the headstones grey. We painted them grey – this is called ‘priming’. Then we had to spray paint the headstones; we needed a face mask, safety goggles and gloves. We also found some stone effect spray paint to make them look realistic. The last thing we had to do was create some stencils to put the names on the finished headstones.
We made three headstones because someone dies in the middle of the opera.
And we have presents because it’s someone’s birthday at the end of the show!
Monday July 4, 2016 Edmund Waller School, 9 of us were in the school to prepare things for the Opera July 14. First we took boxes for gifts for a scene. We taped all the boxes, then around boxes we put newspapers, taped again and then took the wrapping paper and wrapped all boxes.
Then we try to draw a tombstone for another scene of the opera onto some wood. A man helped us build the tombstone, first made a line down the middle to cut with a jigsaw. When we finished we made a semi-circle and the man cut it out. We sand the wood with sandpaper and then used a different type of sandpaper to make it smooth. Soon we will paint the tombstone when Mr. Barratt instructs us.
We had to make a few boxes made of cardboard, newspapers, sellotape and some decorated paper to wrap with. We had to wrap the cardboard boxes with newspaper first (do not use too much sellotape)After that, we took some decorated paper and we did the same thing. Now you have a present for your friend or anyone that you want to give to! By the way the presents are for Skyla’s birthday, the main character of the Opera (Losing Faith.)
We needed a big piece of plywood. You also need a saw as well and some gloves obviously (do not touch the sharp edges). We divided the piece of wood by three so we can have three headstones. Next, we used a jigsaw so we can cut the curves. Then we used sandpaper to make the edges smooth. We found some stone effect spray paint and it looked really realistic.
Mr Chilvers wrote the last post. Here’s one from us!
