Drama4All Workshop.

This afternoon, 2W have been lucky enough to take part in a drama workshop linked to our learning in English.  We met the Funky Fairy who asked us to help him defeat the Red Queen and rescue the Fairytale book that she had stolen!  We played games and had to pretend to be stars so that she didn’t catch us!  As we crept through the Fairytale Forest, we created and mixed potions, pretended to be different characters from well-known tales and encountered a magical chair that made us do all kinds of different things!  We all had great fun and gathered some new ideas to include in our own fairytales!

Fantastic Fruity Fractions!

This morning, in our Maths lesson, we have been learning about fractions.  We know that a fraction is a part of the whole and we have learnt that all of the parts need to be equal.  In the photos, you will see that we cut our fruit into halves and then quarters.  How many parts are there when the apple is cut into halves?  If 4 friends shared an apple, what fraction would they each receive?

Traditional Tale Detectives.

Look at what we found when we came back from lunch!  A crime scene just waiting to be discovered!  We looked carefully at the scene and were able to determine that this is something we are all familiar with … Goldilocks has been here!  We have described the scene and listened to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  2W are currently re-telling the story.  This is the launch of our first unit of work in English; Traditional Tales.  We will be listening to lots of different stories, using drama to explore characters and themes and writing our own tales too.

New Term, New Topic – Toys and Games.

2W have already made a fantastic start to our new term and it’s only 10 o’ clock! Our exciting new topic is ‘Toys and Games’ and we are currently drawing our favourite toys and games and annotating the pictures with information.  We are writing about why the toys are our favourites, who gave them to us, what they’re made of, how we play with them, etc, etc.  Have a look at the photos to see if you can tell what we most enjoy playing with.  What is your favourite toy or game?

Bread Baking – Just Like Thomas Farriner (without the fire!).

This morning, we have been lucky enough to be joined by some lovely parents who have helped us to make delicious bread.  We combined our learning from several different areas during this exciting task:-

  • Reading – to help us follow the recipe carefully.
  • Maths – we weighed the flour and measured the water.
  • PHSME – practising our co-operation and communication skills.
  • History – finding out what Thomas Farriner’s job involved.
  • D&T – learning about food hygiene and food technology.
  • Science – looking at how materials change when they are heated.

Our loaves are currently proving for their final time and will be going into the oven in a few minutes.  At the end of the day, we will get to take them home and share them with our families.  Yum!

Whilst waiting for the dough to prove, our fabulous parents also read with us too.  Thank you!

The Dragon Slayer

In our English lesson today, we watched an animated film called The Dragon Slayer.  We talked about how the characters are feeling, wrote questions for the Dragon Slayer and used a drama technique called Hot Seating to explore the characters’ emotions.

You can watch the film at home by following the link below.

The Great Fire of London – Home Learning

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the children who have brought in their fabulous home learning based on the Great Fire of London.  Your creativity is amazing and it is very clear to see how much you have learnt and remembered!  We are really looking forward to seeing what everyone else has chosen to do.  Please make sure the projects are brought to school this week.

Human Clocks

In 2W, we have been learning about time.  As part of our learning about analogue clocks, we used our bodies to build human clocks.  Can you look at the photographs and work out what times we are showing?  Our next steps will be to learn to tell the time to o’clock, half past and quarter to and quarter past.

Fire! Fire! Rainbow Theatre visit Year 2

This morning, Year 2 were lucky enough to be visited by the Rainbow Theatre Group, who came to perform their show about the Great Fire of London.  The children were all so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, they were asked to join in and become actors in the show.  Every child was able to demonstrate and extend their knowledge of the dates and events linked to the Great Fire; from where and when it started to how and when it was extinguished.  The staff were extremely proud of how fully the children took part and how beautifully they behaved too
