2-Week project, due back Monday 6th February

As part of our topic this term, we have been sketching and drawing teddy bears before modelling them using clay. Over the next 2 weeks, you need to be researchers, using books and the internet to find out as much as you can about teddy bears…

  • How were they invented?
  • What famous teddy bears do you know about?
  • Why do people like them?
  • How are they played with?

Here are some internet links you might find useful:

Remember! Think carefully about how you will present your work. It should be clear and easy for the reader to understand, with:

  • Neat with good layout and your best handwriting
  • Full sentences with lots of interesting description
  • Well-structured so the information makes sense

Good luck! We can’t wait to hear what you find out!

Fire! Fire! London’s Burning!

It all started at the bakery in Pudding Lane….

The fire in Pudding Lane rages like an inferno…

As it burns out, the flames die away, leaving the ashes and cinders behind…

The fire fighters make sure the fire is completely put out by spraying it with their water hose. The water causes a great billowing cloud of smoke…

Then, just as we’re saying “Goodbye,” the fire service get a call and they have to leave quickly to attend a real emergency! p1040034

Waller Bakery – 2MH

p1030990

No – this isn’t a display from Ayres! This amazing artisan bread was made by the children of 2MH (with a little help from some Mums & Dads – thank you!).

After we mixed our ingredients, we had to knead the bread then let it rest to activate the yeast, so the dough would rise and the bread would be light and fluffy.

We then had to leave it to prove for 30 minutes, before we shared it out into equal pieces. Each child was then able to choose their own design, some chose to plait their, while others shaped their bread into twists and buns.

After that we had to leave it to prove again for another 30 minutes, you could see how much the bread increased in size. It reminded Isaac of a flat football and Biba of some play-dough! It was then ready for the oven. It smelled delicious as it cooked. Was there any left for you to taste? What did you think of it?

Plague and Fire! Year 2 Drama Workshop with The Rainbow Theatre

This morning, Year 2 were lucky enough to be visited by the Rainbow Theatre Group, who came to perform their show about the Great Fire of London.  The children were all so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, they were asked to join in and become actors in the show.  Every child was able to demonstrate and extend their knowledge of the dates and events linked to the Great Fire; from where and when it started to how and when it was extinguished.  The staff were extremely proud of how fully the children took part and how beautifully they behaved too!

Fruit Kebabs

Over the past three of weeks 1G have been working on their fruit kebabs. Our first step was to design the fruit kebab. We chose the fruits we would put on them and which order they would be in. Next we used this design to make a prototype of our fruit kebab.  We used coloured card and skewers and we were careful to follow it exactly. For the final stage we made the kebabs out of fresh fruit and skewers following the prototype.

We are now ready for our ‘Memorable Event’. We will make the fruit kebabs with our parents and carers on Thursday 7th July at 3:45 in 1G’s classroom.

We look forward to seeing our parents and carers there!

We Are Farmers Afternoon Activities

This week in 1G we have been doing lots of exciting activities in the afternoon.

Children have been very busy on the Junk Modelling table making the strawberry fields we explored on our educational visit to Stonepitts Farm last week. We have been making a painting of the life Cycle of a French climbing bean using ICT. On the Writing Table we have been making a wanted poster for the elephant from Handa’s Surprise.  Some children have been playing customers and shop keepers in the Farm Shop. In our Book Corner there is always time to share a story with a friend. We have all made a prototype of the fruit kebab we have designed and will make next week.
