The children learned all about the work and life of monks during King Henry VIII’s reformation through role play.
We also learned all about the illuminated manuscripts that the monks scribed and had a go at scribing our own names using a goose feather quill and ink. It wasn’t as easy as it looks!
We even managed to fit in a quick visit to the Tudor galleon, the Golden Hinde II. Queen Elizabeth I’s subject, Sir Francis Drake used this ship to explore the new world and establish the Tudor empire.
In 4S we have been exploring drop caps in our wonderful art classes with Miss Skene. They are decorative capital letters used normally to start a chapter in a book. Here are some examples:
atermellon ach person had to choose whether to do a Tudor one or one showing their personality. We are writing our names with our drop caps at the beginning. We have started sketching out our designs in our art books. Soon we will use a piece of cartridge paper with our final names on. We hope you have learnt something from our blog.
In art we have been drawing pictures of other children in our class dressed up as Tudor people. First, we sketched the outline of the face and their eyes, mouth and nose using yellow pastel. Next, we started to colour beginning with the lightest colour.
In English we have been learning about the witches from Macbeth by William Shakespeare. We did a performance of our own spell. We included the ingredients a hogs head, a cows toe, and a dogs leg. In our performances we had to have a croaky voice to sound like a witch.
In Literacy we have been learning and acting Macbeth and the Witches. We have made up our own spells with rhymes and choruses. We started off thinking of the best crazy ingredients and we put them in our spells. Examples;( guts of an elephant,eyeballs of a snail, liver of a crocodile, slime of slugs.)
We thought of rhymes and verses to put in our spell.We practised performing our spell and we gave each other parts.
