Memorable Event Date Change

Contrary to the information provided on last week’s newsletter the Year 5 ‘Roman Invasion’ memorable event will take place at 2pm on Friday, 15th July.

Our memorable event will provide the opportunity to see all the hard work we have put in this half term, through our Roman invasion re-enactment and our Ancient Roman museum display.

The Croften Roman villa

In class our topic is thr Roman in 5T. Our school trip was going to the Roman house (craftend villa). But we had our lunch and some people sat on the grass and som sat on the side ok the pavement. But their is this really nice lady called edner she was quite old to be into this kind of stuff but she was very interested in the Roman stuff more then us children. Edner talked obituary the viller and the different rooms their are in the viller and talked about that some people wanted the viller to get broken down want to make it to a parking lot but they didn’t broken down because children write to the people who wanted the villa to get broken down. So that dose it for my blog now so I will see all you lot in the next blog bye

ART!!!

In art we

have drawn self, real life looking portraits of are faces using mirrors. First we made four pictures of are self . we done one really quick pic of are self, then we done it with are weak hand, then we done it with eyes closed and last we done it with are pencil not leaving the paper. First we done an egg head then we split the egg into quarters and the instructions go on and on and on (and on).

We had to sketch all the features of our face because if we sketched it hard it wouldn’t be able to rub out.

Scratch Maze Games

In Year 5 we have been making our own computer games, using Scratch, as part of our Inventors topic.  First, we played Pac-Man for ideas and decomposed the game, which means breaking it down into small sections, to understand the different techniques used in the game.  Next, we made a background stage and a sprite for our own version.  After, we created the code for our sprite to make it move and so it can’t go through the walls of our maze.  To make sure that it worked we had to test the game and debug it by making changes if it didn’t work the way we wanted it to.  Finally, we made new sprites for the character to eat and get points.

This week we are evaluating our games as a year group, for our memorable event, and you can see them all by visiting this link.

Spellings

Last week, we investigated words with -tial and -cial endings.  What words can you think of with this pattern?  Can you create a sentence to include in our Iron Man persuasive letters using any of our new vocabulary?  Post your ideas on the blog by commenting below.

This week, we shall be investigating words with -ant endings.  Can you think of any words that use this pattern to add to our word wall?

Spellings

Last week, we investigated words with the ‘shus’ pattern, -cious and -tious endings.

What strategies can you think of to help spell accurately?  Comment on this post so we can share your ideas with the rest of the school.

This week, we will be investigating words with -tial and -cial endings.  What words can you think of with this pattern?

The Future of Bicycles

For your home learning this week you are to design the bicycle of the future.

Consider who your bicycle is for.  Is it for an adult or a child?  Is it racing bike, a road bike, a BMX or a mountain bike?

Consider what materials will it be made out of.  Will it be cutting edge technology or an eco-friendly renewable material?

Consider what will make it stand out from the crowd.  Will it have 2 wheels?  Will it be 100% human powered?  How will you make it move?

Think carefully about the evolution of bike designs that we saw at the Design Museum and the different opinions of what might happen to bicycles of the future when you’re designing the ultimate Edmund Waller bike.
