As we come towards the end of our Toys topic, we have been sculpting teddy bears out of clay. To start with, we linked it to our science learning, looking at the effect of pushes and pulls on the clay. We explored how to shape and mark the clay, using our hands and a variety of tools. In another lesson, we were taught how to join pieces of clay by cross-hatching the edges of the two pieces to be joined and then creating ‘slip’ out of clay and water. When applied to the two pieces, the slip creates a strong join (although we have leant that we need to practise more if we want our joins to be permanent!). Our models will be on display in our Memorable Event Museum … we hope to see you there!
