Hunting for Minibeasts at Horton Kirby

On Friday Reception M went on an educational visit to Horton Kirby.  To get there we had to get on a coach and travel to the countryside.

When we arrived we met our teacher for the day Hannah who took us to our new classroom. First of all we went outside to look for minibeasts. We searched under logs, in bushes, under bricks and carefully collected what we found using a paintbrush and spoon. We put them in a special pot that had a magnifying glass in the lid. After that we took our minibeasts inside to look at.

When we got inside we drew a picture of our favourite minibeast that we had found and used our sounds to write about them. Then it was time for lunch and a quick play.

In the afternoon we smelt some smelly plants (herbs – lemongrass, oregano, mint, sage, rosemary) and collected interesting natural materials. We used these later when we made clay models of our minibeasts.

We had a great time at Horton Kirby. Thanks again to all our adult helpers.
