Minibeast Detectives!

As part of our Mother Earth topic, Reception went on an Educational Visit to the Centre for Wildlife Gardening. We had a great time scavenger hunting, searching for Minibeasts and pond dipping!

In our groups, we went on a Scavenger Hunt to find the following things:IMG_3448 IMG_3443 IMG_3444 IMG_3445 IMG_3447 IMG_3450 IMG_3452 IMG_3453 IMG_3454 IMG_3459

Sylvia showed us how to safely dip for pond life!  IMG_3464 IMG_3465We put the contents of our net into a white tray so we could look carefully at what we had caught.  IMG_3466 - CopyWe knelt down as we leaned into the pond in order to stay safe! Bug Hunting!  IMG_3494We lifted up rocks and logs and dug with spoons to find creatures lurking in the ground! IMG_3495IMG_3477IMG_4337IMG_3478IMG_3493We put the creatures carefully into a magnifying pot so that we could look at them more closely. When we had finished observing them, we put them all back where we found them. IMG_3504IMG_3518 IMG_3519

We played a game of catch the moth. The blindfolded bat had to listen carefully for the sounds of the moth in order to catch it!  IMG_3521 IMG_3525 IMG_4348 IMG_4355 IMG_4356
