Another Friday brings with it another host of fantastic learning from children in the Upper Phase. Enjoy!
The children have been captivated by their learning this week - their level of engagement and enthusiasm is clear to see in the examples of writing, art and history that we were lucky enough to share in our assembly this morning. It's a real pleasure to hear children confidently explain what they have learnt and why they feel so very proud of themselves! Well done years 2 and 3!
Last week saw a group of Year 6 from Edmund Waller Primary School joining local pupil representatives from Addey & Stanhope Secondary School, Childeric Primary School, Grinling Gibbons, Lucas Vale, Our Lady & St Philip Neri Primary School, St James Hatcham CE Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and Twin Oaks Primary School to mark the anniversary of the tragic events of the New Cross Fire. This year was the 44th anniversary of the New Cross Fire, a tragic event that occurred on 18th January 1981. On that day, a group of young people, most of whom were Black, gathered to celebrate the birthdays of two teenagers at a house party at 439 New Cross Road. A fire broke out on the ground floor of the house, spreading quickly. Those trapped upstairs jumped from windows to escape. Tragically, 14 people lost their lives. There were strong reasons to suspect that it was a racist attack, but the police investigation focused elsewhere, and the cause of the fire remained undetermined.
It's incredible to see the progress our lower phase is making! One teacher talked about 'writing stamina' in assembly today, and it's clear to see that the children are developing this important skill all the time. Art was a focus this week too - have a look at the artist study from Year 2 and Year 3's learning about how the impressionist painter Renoir used complementary colours in his paintings.

We have just finished this year's tours for prospective parents and have shown over 200 parents the school, which is quite overwhelming!
Due to capacity, we cannot show individual families around the school. However, we are compiling a mailing list for the next round of tours. There are two types of parent tour.
